AMC Adventure Travel Opportunities

Wild Alaska Day Hiking and Touring by Land, Sea, and Air
June 24-July 3, 2018
A spectacular trip for those looking to sample Alaska with only a daypack! Due to popular demand, we are offering a second session of this trip in 2018. On this spectacular journey, we will be hiking and sightseeing during the day, staying in comfortable lodging at night, and eating fresh seafood and local grub all through the long days of Alaska's ephemeral summer. We will spend 10 days and 9 nights exploring Anchorage and the Chugach mountain range, Denali National Park, and rub elbows with the locals in the funky mountain town of Talkeetna (perhaps the model for the TV show, "Northern Exposure").

Cabin Fever Potluck and Presentation

Meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts, learn news about our club, and join in a delicious potluck dinner! After dinner we'll enjoy a great presentation about the Galapagos, 19 islands in the Pacific called a 'living museum and showcase of evolution' and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The presenters are Joe Gelinas and Roxanne Suprina, AMC Berkshire Chapter hike leaders, who visited the Galapagos last year. They have amazing tales and photos of the region and its wildlife.

High Water/Ice on AT in MA

The Trail segment between Kellogg Rd and US Rt 7 in Mass has been subject to high water and ice from localized flooding along the Housatonic River.  Even when water levels recede, there will be many places with thin/unstable ice 12" or more above the treadway.  Snow cover may make it impossible to determine where the ice is and is not.

At several locations, the Trail is immediately adjacent to the riverbank, and hikers breaking through the ice could end up in the river, or in deep tributary streams.  Avoid this Trail segment until bare ground is visible on the treadway.

Explore the North Cascades with August Camp 2018

In 2018 AMC’s August Camp returns to the breathtaking North Cascades of Washington State. Hikes will be in the North Cascades National Park, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, and Ross Lake and Lake Chelan National Recreation Areas. Choose from a variety of 4-6 hikes every day, or add in backpacking, rafting or kayaking to expand your experience.  No matter what you do, you'll be surrounded by amazing vistas!
