AMC offers over 8,000 adventures annually, from local chapter activities to major excursions worldwide, for every ability level and outdoor interest. Our Western MA activity committees plan and lead nearly 300 of these activities every year. Join us for hiking, biking, paddling, mountaineering and many other outdoor activities, or volunteer to help maintain trails and corridors!

[06‑Oct‑2023 ➢ 08‑Oct‑2023] Save the date! We have begun planning for the second annual women's weekend, Connecting Women, Connecting Nature. This year, we are excited to be collaborating on this event with Women Outdoor, a nonprofit that promotes women's leadership, friendship, adventure and enjoyment in the great outdoors.

Join Us for FallFest!

Get ready to celebrate all things fall with the AMC Western Massachusetts Chapter on September 30, 2023 at the AMC Noble View Outdoor Center from 10:00 - 4:00. There will be a variety of guided and self-guided activities including hikes, morning and moonlight paddles on Russell Pond, and bike rides, as well as demonstrations, information tables, music, and of course, food.
A BBQ lunch will be served from 12:00 - 2:00, as well as popcorn and cider throughout the day. Family activities will be offered including a StoryWalk®, pumpkin craft and games. A suggested donation of per family includes BBQ lunch, access to activities, and free one-year membership for first-time members. Registrants have an option to select a different registration fee. The 250,000-acre corridor of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) and its surrounding landscape are rich in natural and cultural resources. The Western MA A.T. Management Committee runs a robust program to catalog, monitor, and manage these resources on A.T. land in our state. READ MORE »

With Access Fund's support, the Western Massachusetts Climbers' Coalition has secured permanent conservation protection for Farley Ledges and Rose Ledge. The victory is another reminder that when climbing access is threatened, local climbing organizations are often the first and best line of defense. READ MORE »

The Western MA Chapter is blessed to have strong female leaders within its volunteer ranks. These women lead and participate in paddling trips all over the world, from Maine's Allagash River to the Connecticut River and north to Canada. READ MORE »

These two bald eagles were watching over Hampton Ponds yesterday as the sun set. Finding these majestic raptors is always a thrill, but doing so as the sun set on Independence Day, even more so.

Western MA cyclists enjoyed a relaxed, 20-mile warm-up ride on scenic country roads in the southwest corner of the Berkshires on May 21. Starting in Great Barrington, MA, we rode a clockwise loop through Sheffield and Egremont at a sustained pace of 11-13 mph. READ MORE »
