The AMC Western Massachusetts Chapter carries out the mission of the Appalachian Mountain Club in the Berkshire, Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties of Massachusetts
The Appalachian Mountain Club is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the outdoors
We provide guided experiences and resources to help you get the most out of your outdoor journey, while protecting the mountains, forests, waters, and trails in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions
[22‑Jun‑2024] OK, so not the most romantic illustration of trail work, but a necessity to support the operation of this valued AT hiker resource. We need a place to effectively store firewood so caretakers can continue to operate the Cabin well into the fall.
AMC offers over 8,000 adventures annually, from local chapter activities to major excursions worldwide, for every ability level and outdoor interest. Our Western MA activity committees plan and lead nearly 300 of these activities every year. Join us for hiking, biking, paddling, mountaineering and many other outdoor activities, or volunteer to help maintain trails and corridors!
[20‑Jun‑2024] Today marks the longest day of the year and the start of our busiest season with so many opportunities to join in guided activities – paddling hiking, climbing, cycling, trail maintenance, conservation projects and even some cabin renovation – something for everyone!
Immerse yourself in the beautiful landscapes of the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests, as well as the pristine Three Sisters and Mount Jefferson Wilderness Areas. There
are miles of trails that offer some of the best views in all of Oregon – including Cascade peaks, glaciers, waterfalls, alpine meadows, summertime wildflowers, lava fields, mountain
lakes, and other natural wonders.
The volunteer role of the Hiking Chair is to support leaders in offering a variety of hikes to AMC members and other participants, with a safe, fun, inclusive, and welcoming approach. This includes assisting leaders with hike planning and scheduling; encouraging and assisting interested hikers in becoming trained leaders; learning and sharing related AMC and Chapter policies; attending monthly Executive Commitee meetings; creating basic activity reports and submitting the committee's annual budget; and collaborating with fellow committee members to reach goals.Curious? Drop us a line at info@amc-wma.org for more information or to share your interest. We look forward to welcoming you! Learn why we do what we do, and gain the satisfaction of facilitating outdoor discovery and exploration!
