Tannery Falls, Savoy Mountain State Forest »

[27‑Feb‑2024] We will start on the Tannery Trail to the intersection with the trail that goes down 0.2 miles to Tannery Falls. If it's cold enough, you will be treated to two magnificent frozen waterfalls!

Western MA Activity Committees »

AMC offers over 8,000 adventures annually, from local chapter activities to major excursions worldwide, for every ability level and outdoor interest. Our Western MA activity committees plan and lead nearly 300 of these activities every year. Join us for hiking, biking, paddling, mountaineering and many other outdoor activities, or volunteer to help maintain trails and corridors!

August Camp 2024: Central Cascades »

Immerse yourself in the beautiful landscapes of the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests, as well as the pristine Three Sisters and Mount Jefferson Wilderness Areas. There are miles of trails that offer some of the best views in all of Oregon – including Cascade peaks, glaciers, waterfalls, alpine meadows, summertime wildflowers, lava fields, mountain lakes, and other natural wonders.

February Storywalk. This month's Storywalk features " Let's Go! Animal Tracks in the Snow!" by Diane Polley. Bring the kids up to Noble View to walk a short hike while learning how to identify animal tracks.

Paddling Instruction. Have you ever wondered what it's like to paddle a kayak on a turbulent river? This is your chance! Or, take part in our upcoming Canoe School, which provides flat water, moving water, Class 1 & mild Class 2 whitewater instruction.

Adopt the NET! The AMC Trails Program is committed to the protection and care of the trails and backcountry campsites of our region and the experiences they provide. Tell Congress: Protect Imperiled Species & the Endangered Species Act! The Endangered Species Act (ESA) turns 50 this year, but it is still vulnerable to attacks. 24 Years Strong! The Tuesday Hiking Group has been out and about every Tuesday for many years, with just a short break during the pandemic. On Oct. 10th we celebrated with a 24th anniversary hike and potluck at Chesterfield Gorge after a three-mile hike along the Westfield River.

Did You Know? The 250,000-acre corridor of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) and its surrounding landscape are rich in natural and cultural resources. The Western MA A.T. Management Committee runs a robust program to catalog, monitor, and manage these resources on A.T. land in our state. READ MORE »

Massachusetts Climbers Just Won Big at Farley Ledges. With Access Fund's support, the Western Massachusetts Climbers' Coalition has secured permanent conservation protection for Farley Ledges and Rose Ledge. The victory is another reminder that when climbing access is threatened, local climbing organizations are often the first and best line of defense. READ MORE »

Bicycling Committee »

Warm-Up Ride, Shays Rebellion. Western MA cyclists enjoyed a relaxed, 20-mile warm-up ride on scenic country roads in the southwest corner of the Berkshires on May 21. Starting in Great Barrington, MA, we rode a clockwise loop through Sheffield and Egremont at a sustained pace of 11-13 mph. READ MORE »
